About the Author
For the past 45 years or so, I have been traveling the world doing hundreds of seminars for chief executives. My main contribution however has been working "in the trenches" with a few of them to help them make competent or even great organizations. Each is a complex endeavor that has to be customized to the particular organization and its particular executives. I've talked about this. And I've answered many questions about it. The time finally came to set forth how to think about doing this, and as well how to get started actually implementing some of the basics. This book summarizes my unique approach to making high-performance organizations and the leadership required to do so. It is dedicated to those courageous and committed chief executives who volunteered to undergo the stresses and anguish of making great things happen. Really world-class

Dr. Lee Thayer is clearly one of the brightest and innovative thinkers on Leadership. It is very comfortable for me to say that he not only "Gets-It", but that he "Conceptualizes it" and makes it internal. This is not just another checklist "receipe book". You'll need to read carefully, digest then be moved to your own actions. This does, better than anyother book, hit the "essence of leadership" and what it takes to accomplish it.

Excellent resource for leaders!

This book is an outstanding resource for anyone responsible for leading an Organization. Dr. Thayer is a gifted teacher providing unique perspectives on competency as it relates to individuals and organizations. I recommend The Competent Organization and encourage readers to consider Dr. Thayer's other books; they are excellent!

Best book I've ever read on management and I've read lots of them. Thayer has many other management books worth reading too. There's repetition among them and that's good...helps the concepts to really sink in.
