Absolutely Perfect

I usually do not gush over one book, let alone three but these I could not put down. Move aside Jack Reacher, there is a new bad boy in town and his name is John Milton. I will admit that getting into the first book was a little difficult because it did not fit the formula of the detective books I have been reading but it was worth the effort. I will not spoil the plots but you have to start with one and read forward. Like the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, these have to be read in order and when you get done, you too will say, "Damn that was a good read!" i just bought Dawson's Ghosts based on my own recommendation, so myself, don't let me down.

I don't get the high ratings

I bought this book as a three-part series of the John Milton books. It also contains a novella, One Thousand Yards, at the beginning. I finished it, but didn't get too far into the first book, The Cleaner, before quitting it.
I bought the books based on their high ratings at Amazon and because I like reading about assassins, the CIA, MI6, etc. And I was a fan of the characters John Milton was being compared to. Given all that, I was hoping I'd discover a new hero.
But, sadly, no. One Thousand Yards wasn't too bad, but didn't really go anywhere and it certainly didn't lead into The Cleaner. And The Cleaner seems to be more about Milton, who quits, trying to assuage his guilt for the lives he's taken while being an assassin. He saves the life of a young single mother struggling to keep her son from getting into too much trouble. While this might not be a bad story in and of itself, it's not why I bought the books.
At some point later, I may try reading the second book to see if the character gets more interesting. But the novella and first book didn't get me off to a good start.

Interesting and different

This series of books were great to have and read together one after the other. I appreciated the style of writing and the fact that Mark Dawson didn't resort to sex or gory, bloody details to sell the story or as filler, making the books longer. John Smith was the story and the books were a good read.
Thank you Mr. Dawson for giving me several hours of interesting, enjoyable reading.
